Yesterday was Columbus Day, a day off for government employees but it was also a Japanese holiday as well. In short I wasn't really expecting many to come in. But happily there were a few people wanting to get some work in. One of our new members is really tall, roughly 6'5" with a really long reach. We went light for three rounds and it was a lot of fun. I haven't got in the ring against a height advantage in about a year. Makes it challenging and it reminds you that your not always going to have it easy. I look forward to working with him and seeing him progress. Once he gets his bearings straight and becomes ring savvy, it won't be so easy when it comes to sparring but always look forward to it.
It goes back to a lesson my sensei Mr. Kamikaze taught me: You should always be trying to one up yourself, seek out the tougher opponent. If your always training with people your better than you will never improve.
On another note Paco is putting in his ring time. Days are counting down to Mononofu and he's getting himself psyched up. With more confidence and aggression he's getting tougher and more slippery every day. He clipped me yesterday and I caught a bloody nose out of the fray. This is the 2nd time in 7 days he's drawn blood on someone. Looking forward to seeing it at Mino's event.
